Biography

Born in Edinburgh in 1984 Sarah graduated in 2007 with a BA (HONS) in Printmaking from Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. Since graduating the Artist is now based in Edinburgh and continues to produce work from her studio at the art's complex.

Sarah is influenced by the notions of nostalgia and sentimentality, trying to create images that explore the links between emotion and memory. She wants people to view her work and it to trigger personal episodic memories without the images themselves being quirky or cliche and instead being evocative and cinematic in feel. For this reason Sarah likes ambiguity and suggestion.

Her work houses a broad spectrum of subject matter, including; landscapes, architecture, interiors, objects, distortions or concepts. She turns to film, literature and the past for inspiration, often finding beauty in the most unintentional/unconventional settings.

She is particularly interested in the process involved in creating art and often incorporates sketchbook pages, preparatory studies and notations in her final outcomes showing a tangible journey from initial idea to finished piece housed within the one image. Through this Sarah aims to develop a better understanding of personal choices and why certain aesthetic decisions are made in the production of her work.
